Background: Senco for 10 years in an inner city primary school in Bradford. Now working as a Specialist Teacher for Bradford Council SEN Services. I am the lead teacher for speech, language and communication needs. My current post involves working with staff to plan and deliver appropriate provision in mainstream schools with pupils aged 5-18, working with families and delivering training. I have an MSc in language and communication impairments in children and a post graduate Diploma in teaching and assessing learners with specific learning difficulties.
How long have you been delivering Catch Up® training?
Since November 2014
What’s been your greatest success as a Catch Up® trainer?
The enjoyment and progress of the two Year 6 learners to whom I delivered Catch Up® Numeracy. To see their confidence and skills grow over the 12 weeks was really special; they each gained 18 months in their number ages! As a trainer, I am able to share this direct experience of delivering the intervention with the trainees and this has been really effective as they can see what I did and the impact.
What do you like best about Catch Up® training?
The opportunity to work with staff from a variety of schools, to share ideas and experiences. I like that the training has - ‘gap tasks’ for trainees to go away and practise in school; this is so much more effective than simply talking about the intervention or following a manual.
What would be your Catch Up® top tip/advice?
Enjoy the privilege of working 1:1 with a learner and building up trust and confidence. Make the sessions fun!
